The controversy erupted on X after Sherman linked the cryptocurrency to political motivations, suggesting it could influence TikTok's ongoing regulatory challenges in the U.S.

The platform's policy team called the allegations "patently false and irresponsible," referencing a prior letter signed by Sherman that contradicted his own statements. The dispute coincides with former President Donald Trump's executive order extending TikTok's divestment deadline to September 2025, fueling speculation about crypto's role in geopolitical maneuvering.
